What we do in a bike service
A Checkover is a basic healthcheck
on your bike. We will adjust brakes and gears, pump tyres, check
everything over, and advise you of further necessary work. This
costs £14.10 (£12.00+VAT) , plus the
cost of any parts. This is the best option if your bike has been
in storage, if you don't use it very often, or if it's in good
running order and you want to be keep it that way.
What do we do in a checkover?
Check frame and fork straight, check bottom bracket, tighten crank bolts, tighten pedals, check cones front and rear, check tyres front and rear for pressure and foreign objects, secure both wheels, check and adjust brake blocks, adjust and oil brake cables, check, clean and oil chain, adjust front and rear derailleur mechanisms and cables, check headset, bars and stem, adjust saddle.
A Service. is where
we check and adjust everything that moves, replacing components
as necessary. The labour charge is claculated at £28.20 per hour
(=£24.00+VAT), and there's usually a minimum of an hour's work
required),
but you will almost certainly need extra parts – brake blocks,
cables, tubes, tyres, etc. Pop into the shop with your bike anytime,
we can give you an estimate of how much you need to spend.
What can we do in a service?
Check frame, forks, dropout straight. Wash bike, clean drivetrain.
Check bottom bracket, tighten crank bolts and pedals. Adjust
cones front and rear. Secure wheels. True wheels front and rear,
replacing spokes if necessary. Check tyres for wear, foreign
objects, pressure. Replace if necessary. Check cassette lockring.
Check brake fixing bolts and mechanism, clean and oil. Check
brake blocks and cables, adjust and replace if necessary. Bleed
hydraulic brakes. Check chain, cassette and chainrings for wear,
replace if necessary. Adjust and lubricate front and rear derailleurs
and cables. Check suspension forks, lubricate externally. Adjust
headset, check bars and stem, replace grips or bartape if necessary.
Adjust and secure saddle. Adjust and fit accessories. Fit or
service headset and bottom bracket. Polish.
The only thing not covered is building wheels, re-enamelling
frames or servicing suspension forks and shocks. (for all of which
separate estimates will be given).
